Background

The GameSir X2 Type-C is a mobile gaming controller that connects directly to smartphones through a USB-C port. It features tactile buttons, power and audio passthrough, e-sports–grade joysticks, soft rubber grips, and an air-cooling design for extended gaming sessions. This device is only compatible with Android phones up to 173 millimetres in length and was designed for minimal input latency.

Released by GameSir in 2020, the X2 Type-C was discontinued in 2022 and later replaced by Bluetooth and X2s versions that support both Android and iOS devices.

The controller was intended for gamers seeking a console-like experience on mobile devices. Despite its popularity among Android users, it faced durability issues — most notably the USB-C connector, which could bend and lose connection over time. Users also reported joystick cap detachment, prompting GameSir to improve design and compatibility in later models.

Identification

The GameSir X2 Type-C has a white shell with black rubber grips on the back. The left joystick is red, while the right joystick is blue. The D-pad, buttons, and triggers are all black, and a GameSir logo is embossed on the rubber pad where the phone rests. The model number is located on the inside of the controller, near the charging port, or on the back of the device.

The USB-C plug, located on the left side, features a 51° pivot for easy phone insertion. Beneath the D-pad, there is an additional USB-C charging port that allows passthrough charging during gameplay. This design helps keep the phone powered without interfering with the controller’s function.
