Background

The Galaxy Tab A8 was announced on December 15, 2021 and was released on January 17, 2022. It is the successor to the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 and A7 Lite, at a 10% increase in CPU power over previous models. It is part of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A series, which is Samsung’s denomination for mid-range/budget friendly devices in their tablet lineup. As its name suggests, it is the 8th iteration of the tablet in its respective category.

The Galaxy Tab A8 shipped with Android 11 and is upgradable to Android 14 (One UI 6.0). Support for the device has ended as of 2024, however the device is still expected to receive security and app compatibility updates. The device has access to apps from Google Play Store and Google Apps, as well as the Galaxy Store and Samsung apps.

The Tab A8 does not support a stylus, NFC, or biometrics, with the exception of 2d facial recognition. This is unlike newer models/other lineups such as the S10, which supports fingerprint biometrics.

Identification

The Galaxy Tab A8 is available in WiFi-only and LTE editions. Storage ranges from 32GB to 64GB and up to 128GB. The 32GB models have 3GB of RAM while the other models have 4GB. A microSD slot is included which supports sizes up to 1TB. It comes in three colors - graphite, silver, and pink-gold. The screen is 10.5 inches with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and has a ratio of 16:10. The tablet has a 5MP front camera and an 8MP rear camera, a headphone jack, Bluetooth support, USB-C charging, and four speakers. You can find the serial number on the back of the tablet in small print. To positively identify the device, you can navigate to settings “About tablet”; there you will find the product name, model name, and serial number.
