Make sure to power off the laptop completely and disconnect the charging adapter before beginning working with any internal components.

Don't forget troubleshooting basics. Before you start any significant repairs to your device, please check the following:

  • Outdated software

    • Remove the following screws securing the lower case:

    • Seven 5 mm-long Phillips #00

    • Three 7 mm-long Phillips #00

    • Two 8 mm-long Phillips #1

    • Insert an opening tool into the seam between the lower case and chassis.

    • Pry around the entire perimeter until the lower case fully releases.

    • Remove the lower case.

    • Use a clean fingernail or a spudger to disconnect the battery sliding connector from its motherboard socket.

    • Remove the four Phillips #0 screws securing the battery.

    • Be careful not to puncture or bend the battery as the battery could leak harmful chemicals or catch fire.

    • Lift the battery up and out of the laptop.

    • Two clips secure the RAM module in place, one on each side. Using your fingers, spread the clips away from the RAM module.

    • Use light force to pull the RAM module directly out of its socket.

    • Remove the 3 mm-long screw securing the Wi-Fi card.

    • Place angled tweezers under the metal neck of the connector and lift straight up from the board to disconnect the cables.

    • Remove the Wi-Fi card by gently sliding it out of its connector.

    • Remove the three 3 mm-long Phillips #0 screws securing the heat sink.

    • Remove the heat sink.

    • Unplug the sliding connector of the fan from the motherboard.

    • Flip up the four black locking flaps that secure the four motherboard ribbon cables.

    • Gently disconnect all four ribbon cables.

    • Some of the blue ribbon cable connectors will be glued down using a sticky tab. Do NOT remove the sticky tab, lightly pry the ribbon off then remove as usual.

    • Push the CMOS battery and speaker connectors directly out of their sockets.

    • Remove the two 4 mm-long screws using a Phillips #0 screwdriver.

    • Remove the two 3 mm-long screws using a Phillips #0 screwdriver.

    • Remove the motherboard.
