Aidan Gillen (nascido Aidan Murphy;Dublin, 24 de Abril de 1968) é um ator irlandês. É vencedor de três IFTA Film & Drama Awards e foi indicado a um BAFTA TV Awards, a um British Independent Film Awards, a um Tony Awards e a um Drama Desk Awards.
Gillen é conhecido pelo público televisivo por seus papéis como Stuart Alan Jones na série Queer as Folk (1999–2000); Tommy Carcetti em The Wire (2004–2008); John Boy em Love/Hate (2010–2011); Petyr Baelish em Game of Thrones (2011–2017); Aberama Gold em Peaky Blinders (2017–2019); Milo Sunter em Mayor of Kingstown (2021–2024); e Frank Kinsella em Kin (2021–2023).
No cinema, interpretou Lord Nelson Rathbone em Shanghai Knights (2003), Agente da CIA Bill Wilson em The Dark Knight Rises (2012), Dr. Frank Harte em Calvary (2014), Janson em Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) e Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018), Robert em Sing Street (2016) e John Reid em Bohemian Rhapsody (2018).
Primeiros anos e educação
Gillen nasceu como Aidan Murphy na área de Drumcondra em Dublin, o mais novo de seis filhos de Patricia (nascida Gillen) e Denis Murphy,[1] em 24 de abril de 1968.[2] Ele foi educado no St. Vincent's C.B.S. no bairro de Glanesvin em Dublin.[3]
Gillen ingressou no National Youth Theatre aos catorze anos,[4] e também se juntou ao Dublin Youth Theatre na adolescência.[5] Sua carreira começou aos 16 anos,[6] com o papel de Nick Bottom[7] na produção do Dublin Youth Theatre de A Midsummer Night's Dream no Project Theatre em 1983.[8][9]
Ele obteve seu Equity card logo após deixar a escola e começou a conseguir pequenos papéis profissionais aos 17 anos. O nome Aidan Murphy já estava registrado, então ele passou a usar o nome de solteira de sua mãe como nome artístico.[5] Mudou-se para Londres em 1987, quando tinha 18 ou 19 anos.[5][7]
