Scissurellidae, às vezes conhecidos pelo nome comum de pequenos caracóis de fenda, são uma família taxonômica de minúsculos caracóis marinhos, moluscos gastrópodes marinhos ou micromoluscos no clado Vetigastropoda (de acordo com a Taxonomia dos Gastrópodes (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005)).[1]
As conchas desses caracóis variam em tamanho na fase adulta, de menos de 6 mm a menos de 1 mm.
Distribuição
Os caracóis da família Scissurellidae ocorrem em todo o mundo, desde a zona entremarés até as profundezas abissais, inclusive ao redor de fontes hidrotermais.
Taxonomia
Existem cerca de 169 espécies vivas descritas de Scissurellidae, mas a diversidade dos scissurellídeos ainda está longe de ser completamente avaliada (aproximadamente 60 espécies coletadas aguardam descrição).[2] A monofilia da família é questionável.[3]
Em 2003, havia cerca de 25 gêneros divididos em 5 subfamílias (Scissurellinae, Anatominae, Sutilizoninae, Temnocinclinae, Larocheinae).[4] 3 dessas subfamílias foram posteriormente atualizadas para o nível de família.
De acordo com a Taxonomia dos Gastrópodes (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005), esta família era composta pelas 2 subfamílias seguintes:
- Scissurellinae Gray, 1847 − sinônimo: Depressizoninae Geiger, 2003; agora aceita com classificação de família Scissurellidae.
- Larocheinae Finlay, 1927: agora elevada à categoria de família como Larocheidae.
Entretanto, Geiger (2009)[5] elevou Depressizoninae à categoria de família como Depressizonidae.
