My name is Byron Porter, and I go to Austin Community College, where I’m majoring in Environmental Science. I chose this major because I really want to help make the world a better and more sustainable place. I’ve always cared about nature and the environment, and I want to learn how we can protect it while still moving forward as a society.

My goal is to work in a field that focuses on protecting the planet whether that’s through renewable energy, conservation, or community sustainability projects. I want to use what I learn to make a real difference for future generations.

I’m a hands-on, hardworking person who’s always willing to learn something new. I’ve got practical skills when it comes to fixing things, especially cars—I’ve repaired brakes, headlights, and car batteries. I enjoy figuring out how things work and finding ways to make them work better. In the future, I’d love to learn how to repair electric or hybrid vehicles.

Even though I haven’t done any big geoscience projects yet, I’m excited to start working on them soon. I’m proud of the progress I’ve made balancing school, football, and life. Playing football at the college level has taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to stay committed to my goals. Right now, I’m playing football at Southwestern, and I plan to continue playing when I transfer to UTSA.

Outside of school and sports, I love being outdoors especially hiking. I also like spending time with my family and friends, playing sports, and just enjoying life. This project means a lot to me because it gives me the chance to learn something new and build a skill that I can use later in life. Every experience helps me grow and gets me closer to where I want to be.

A few fun facts about me: I have five cats, I have two different colored eyes, and being outside is my happy place. Football is a big part of my life, but so are the people and animals I care about. I’m excited to keep learning, exploring, and doing my part to make the world a little better every day.
