Hello there!

My name is Bethany Masum, and I'm currently a third year Biomedical Engineering major at the University of California, Davis. My scoliosis diagnosis inspired me to pursue this path, and I hope to specialize in medical device development. Some projects that I'd like to work on are improving the ergonomics of wheelchairs and making dental tools quieter (dental hygienists/ dentists face occupational deafness more than most other occupations, partly due to the shrill noises the tools they use emit).

I have more experience building things than repairing them. I have built a bookshelf, some chairs, and assisted in the design of a device that helps users with the function of only one hand with tying their shoes. The latter was the final project of my first engineering course, and involved the use of Solidworks, laser-cutters, and lots of teamwork. The Solidworks assembly is pictured below.

I am looking forward to participating in this project to advance my communication skills with clients and teammates, as well as to learn how to put together a manual.

One of my favorite things about UC Davis is Cheeto, the Physics Building cat. I'll add one of my favorite photos of him below.
