My name is Jose Mauricio Davila, and I am currently a student at Austin Community College, pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity. I chose this major because the rise of online threats has made it more important than ever to protect sensitive information, and I want to play a role in making people feel safe when using technology. My ultimate goal is to become a penetration tester for a major organization such as a bank or hospital, where security is critical.
Along the way, I’ve gained valuable skills through my work and studies. As an IT intern at the Housing Authority of the City of Austin, I have helped create tracking logs for refurbished devices, ensuring equipment is accounted for and ready for use. I’ve also assisted in planning community events that encourage elderly residents to use the internet and digital resources with more confidence. On the technical side, I’ve repaired MacBooks, Windows laptops, and tablets, often using iFixit resources to guide me through the process. My repair experience even extends to fixing my kids’ iPads—since they love to crack their screens, I’ve had plenty of practice!
This project connects directly to my growth in technical writing, a skill that will not only help me succeed in cybersecurity but also allow me to share clear and useful knowledge with my peers at work.
Outside of school and work, I have a wide range of interests. I hold an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts and have a passion for food from around the world. I also love gaming—Chrono Trigger remains my favorite of all time—and I enjoy exploring everything related to technology. Music is another important part of my life, and while I listen to all kinds of genres, Daft Punk has always been my favorite band.
I like to think of myself as someone with a “people-first” attitude—whether through food, tech, or community work, I enjoy helping others and making their experiences better. With a long name, a love for creativity, and a drive to grow, I’m excited to see where this journey in cybersecurity takes me.
