Hello There!
Hi! My name is Alex Briggs, and I'm an English major at the University of North Texas. Next spring, I'll also graduate with two minors: Technical Communication and History. I'm excited to start the iFixit project!
Alex's Aspirations and Accomplishments:
As I mentioned, I'm an English major (Creative Writing specifically). I love to write, read, and edit. I aim to become a full-time editor or copywriter, but my passion is writing fiction. This summer, I'm working toward my first publication, which I hope will lead to more publications going forward.
I've been very fortunate to be a part of several different opportunities for professional growth, such as:
- Acting as the Prose Editor on UNT's undergraduate literary magazine, The North Texas Review.
- Interning at the independent book publisher Brown Books Publishing Group last summer.
- Winning the Silver Key Scholastic Art and Writing Award for one of my short stories, The Cowboy.
Through these opportunities, I've learned to foster writing, editing, and proofreading skills. I've also learned more about time management and team communication.
The iFixit Project
For this project, I bring some experience "building" and "repairing" -- in two different ways! As a physical artist, I build things all the time, making several tweaks and repairs along the way. For example, here's a photo of a jar I crafted out of clay!
However, I have also "built" and "repaired" essays, research summaries, and other written projects. Most prominently, I helped build two different editions of The North Texas Review by helping select which student submissions to include in the magazine. I edited those pieces too, which is a form of "repairing" or polishing a written work.
Fun Facts
- I'm a huge music lover! I particularly love classic rock, funk, and pop. My favorite band is Toto (but I think The Beatles take the cake for the best band of all time).
- My favorite movie of all time is a three-way tie between The Princess Bride, Hamlet (1996), and Nightmare on Elm Street: Dream Warriors. Weird, I know.
- I have been to 27 out of 50 US states. My goal is to see them all, but Texas is still my favorite!
