Major— DESIGN Why did you choose this major?
The majority of our surroundings this day and age are human made (whether one would prefer this or not). The built world surrounds us, and each human-made choice around us, no matter how big or small, has the power to be an obstacle or addition to the experience and navigation of our lives. Unseen or seen, intentional or otherwise; From systems of interaction to the method in which one operates a sink, the impact of Design in a built world is truly undeniable, if you can take the time to see it.
I believe everything can be improved, created to better suit and serve the varying situations of the complexity of life – many such solutions being found beyond trends and conventions that so often overpower the introspection and explorative thought required for beneficial innovation..
For as long as I can remember, I have unknowingly cultivated a great curiosity.
If it was the exploration that byproducted the acts of creation, or the want to create that called for the exploration, I am unsure. Though In reality I know it to be like everything in existence: a heavily interconnected relationship of extreme complication, and complete sense.
Given all of that, It should be of no surprise that my interests within the field of design are quite broad. Though in line with the earlier expressed impact that which the built environment has directly on its subjects, my lean has admittedly been towards that of "architecture", for its immediate effect and prevalence in the social/emotional aspects of how people are even able to live their lives.
The intersection of art and practicality: Design is certainly a place I feel I belong.

By far, my time spent as an employee to a public Makerspace, were my on-the-clock-hours in which I felt the most helpful, most fulfilled and most myself. Our space hosts an array of 3D printers, Laser cutters, a full woodshop, vinyl cutting supplies, sewing machines, adult craft classes, glass etching supplies, CNC routers, and much much more. The enthusiastic creative cast of team members ready to learn and create, fuels everyone's ability to confidently navigate the tools and machinery – patrons and employees alike. Everyone brings their own background and skills to present, and everyone is able to benefit and grow their multidisciplinary skills through simply showing up to our space.
