Hi, I'm Shahram. I’ve picked up a patchwork of skills and credentials over the years that have somehow led me to my perfect job where I take things apart and figure out how they work.
I'm also an obsessive fixers. My habit of hoarding broken electronics is no joke, I genuinely enjoy bringing devices back to life when everyone else has given up on them. As such, my garage is filled with devices best described as a cross between The Brave Little Toaster and Frankenstein's Monster.
Education & Experience
I studied Central and Eastern European History at the University of Glasgow and worked in the financial sector for close to a decade. There came a point where I felt I needed a career change so I took a risk and lucked out, trading my three-hour daily commute for a breezy seven-minute drive along California’s sunny central coast.
From there, I naturally drifted towards my interests in technology and engineering. I'm currently brushing up on my mathematics so I can better understand the world of electronics, with a specific interest in understanding wireless signals.
Favourite Fixes
Aside from converting everything from American English to English (when I can get away with it), my proudest fix was upgrading a busted micro-USB port to USB-C port.
It was my first time soldering and, if I'm honest, I was amazed I pulled it off. One of my kids broke a cable, and instead of replacing it with the same outdated standard, I spent two weeks researching and two days at the iron, using scraps and parts I had sitting around. I learned a lot, and this repair was one of the first to set me on the path to better understanding what goes into the design of electronics.
More About Me
When I’m not tinkering or learning something new, you’ll probably find me playing Minecraft with my boys or roaming the coast. I like to keep my hands and my mind active—that usually means I'm in the workshop testing a new harebrained experiment, making progress on an old project, or disassembling something I probably shouldn’t be taking apart (but will anyway).
Where Else to Find Me
You can find me on LinkedIn, and I often post CT, microscope, and other hardware shots on Threads and Insta. I even have my own heavily neglected YouTube channel where I'll share my nerdiness if I'm feeling inspired (and motivated—video is hard!).
