I have been with iFixit since 2016, in a role that has gradually evolved over the years. Currently, I have three primary areas of responsibility:
- I oversee quality control for the replacement parts side of our business, managing our internal quality assurance processes, monitoring customer return rates, and overseeing inspections that occur at our vendor facilities in China. I coordinate with our China-based part suppliers on topics of product quality, packaging, and labeling — and occasionally get involved in product sourcing and catalog expansion.
- I manage the Operations leads of our Stuttgart, Germany warehouse, regularly coordinating with the team to ensure that E.U. operations function smoothly.
- I build and maintain a lot of spreadsheets and Slack automations. If you work in iFixit Operations, odds are high that you're interacting on a daily basis with one or more spreadsheets I have built.
A bit about my background: I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and moved up to the San Luis Obispo area in 2008. I began tinkering with Macs when I was about twelve years old after acquiring my father's Macintosh SE as a hand-me-down when he upgraded to the (color!) Macintosh LCII. I got into dial-up bulletin board systems (BBS) as a teenager and even hosted my own with two dialup lines and 28.8k modems. I started dabbling in web design in the late 90s with basic HTML and JavaScript, but have generally found myself more capable with hardware troubleshooting and repair. I've been repairing Apple Macintosh products professionally since 2000 — prior to working at iFixit, I had worked for two different Apple Authorized Service Providers as an Apple Certified Service Technician, accumulating about ten years of experience.
Aside from tech-y things, I am a world traveler. I embarked upon my first trip abroad when I was a teenager, and quickly became addicted to exploring other countries and cultures. I have spent a combined five years backpacking, living and working abroad, over several journeys across Europe, Southeast Asia, India, and the Middle East — 43 countries at last count. I lived in Syria for a few years before the conflict unfolded there, teaching English and documenting the country's cultural and historic sites. I had a book published of my photography: Lens on Syria. I also maintain a website dedicated to the subject. These days, my travel is mostly work-related, but it has given me the opportunity to explore China in recent years.
Other stuff: I enjoy television that offers some sort of social or political commentary. I grew up listening to 80s/90s punk rock, which has been highly influential in both my taste in music and my social and political views. I lean to the far left politically, follow politics fairly closely, and the focus of my interest is mostly on geopolitics and foreign policy. I have been vegetarian for 20+ years. I am a baseball fan (Dodgers).
I live in Los Osos with my wife Rasha.
