    • The use of only one type of screw simplifies repair.

    • The lack of modularity, especially on high-wear ports, makes repairs unnecessarily expensive.

    • Replacement of any part requires removal of the display assembly, an easy (and expensive) part to damage.

A big part of the Surface’s thermal solution is the aluminum backshell. If they added thermal pads between the back of the CPU and PMIC area of the PCB and the case, it would definitely be a nice touch.

Does anyone knows if the battery for the surface go 1 is compatible with the surface go 2 and vice versa?

to anyone wondering, No, it's not .. But, Go 2,3,4 share the same .. battery, Display, housing, wifi antenna's ..

I tried replacing the battery but I damaged the screen. It is very easy to damaged the screen as there is only 5mm of space to work with on the edges off the screen. Pry to deep and the screen will malfunction. Ended up ordering a new screen as replacing the battery was sort of succesfull.

i recently found a surface go 2 tablet at my local electronics recycling center. it was labeled as "not working", but it was for free and was in perfect optical condition, so i decided to take it home to see if i maybe can salvage some parts OR, in the best case, get it running again. i charged it and pressed the start button, and i was pretty surprised that it actually DID boot to the win 10 login screen with one user profile that is password protected. tried to boot from a linux usb drive but the BIOS settings were unfortunately also password protected . to make one thing clear: i am not interested into getting in these accounts, but it would be nice if theres a way to get this thing running again without them , i found out that using this device in any way will be simply impossible without the linked microsoft acc, even if you replace the ssd with a new one, reset the bios password by clearing CMOS battery... and so my question is: is there really NO way to use this in any form without the passwords? and will removing the CMOS battery REMOVE the bios password?

first of all, there is no CMOS battery .. or at least changeable cmos battery.
Second, a normal Surface Recovery Image should boot fine, with this you can wipe the device.
if boot from USB does not work at first, Press and Hold volume down and power until loading circle appears.
