This can be done with an iPod Nano 1st Generation To 6th Generation.

    • Force Reboot the iPod by holding down the Select and Menu buttons together.

    • When the display shuts off, Press and hold the Back button while still holding down the Select button.

My Bad, It can be done on any iPod nano (1 to 6)
I'll be changing it to iPod nanos in general.

Short answer: Yes, It can.

To navigate, use the back and next buttons to scroll up and down, select and menu have the same functions as normal (play/pause act like another select button). This mode can completely shut off the iPod, select sleep, then deep sleep. then pressing any button will boot the ipod back up (with the apple logo). Use deep sleep before repairing the iPod hardware (most importantly the battery and the logic board), this keeps the iPod safer and less likely to freak out.
