Sony WH-CH720N Charging Port Replacement

Introdução

This repair guide details how to replace the USB-C charging port on the left side of the Sony WH-CH720N. This is necessary in the event of bending/ breaking the charging port, or failure to charge.

Caution when using soldering iron as the end is HOT.

Passo 1

Place the headphones down on a table, and orient them in this way.

Passo 2

Remove the ear pad.
Check introductions to ensure you remove the correct side earmuff for each repair guide!

Passo 3

Use a Philips #00 screwdriver to remove the four 5 mm screws from the left driver housing.

Passo 4

Using the same bit, remove the two 3 mm screws from the circuit board.
Gently remove the circuit board.

Passo 5

Desolder the four joints holding the USB-C charging port there.
Pull the charging port off.

For the love of all that is holy do NOT pull the charging port off. I don't have a set of these to correct the image myself but you also have to desolder the pads from the top side otherwise you risk ruining the entire pcb. Someone with a pair to take pics please correct this.

Replacing a surface mount USB port is a skilled job and requires specialised equipment. This guide is is dangerously wrong in parts, and also missing some crucial steps and considerations.

If you DO follow attempt the repair according to this guide, you will almost certainly cause irreversible damage to the main PCB in your headphones.
