This guide is written for a John Deere LA120 Riding Lawnmowers.

  • This guide is intended for lawnmowers that may have worn tires, non-repairable flat tires, or upgraded tire replacement.
  • This guide is intended to replace a tire and accompanying rim.
  • Replacing the tire from the rim is possible and achievable with some special tools, but this is considered outside the scope of this guide.

    • Disconnect the battery before beginning repairs. Generally, a 9mm or 10mm will be the correct bolt sizes for most batteries. Check your owner's manual for correct size.

    • Remove the ignition key.

    • Make sure the brake is engaged and locked.

    • Deflate the tire if it is holding air.

    • Use a heat gun or hair dryer to loosen the wheel hub cover as they can become hard over time and difficult to remove.

    • Should the hub cover become damaged during removal, the hub cover for your model should be available from local lawn/tractor/hardware supply stores or online retailers.

    • Securely raise the base of the lawnmower with a jack.

    • A 2x4 piece of wood is placed under the jack point to protect the body of the mower. This is NOT required. Should you choose to do this, use caution as the wood must be placed evenly and not prone to cracking.

    • Support the mower with jack stands to provide extra support and safety.

    • Remove the tire retaining clip.

    • Remove the washer from the axle.

    • Remove the tire.

    • Take the tire and rim along with the replacement tire to a local auto shop and have them mount the tire for a small fee.

    • Reinstall the tire to the mower.

    • Reinsert the washer and retaining pin.

    • Replace the tire hub cover.

    • Remove the jack stands.

    • Lower the jack and move it out from under the mower.

    • Reattach the battery.

    • Verify the tire is inflated and start the mower.
