Introdução

Washing your wading gear helps extend its functional life. After a week on the Blackfoot River, don’t toss your waders in the garage and forget about them. Dirt, sweat, river sludge, and even water left on waders for extended periods can accelerate deterioration and reduce performance. A quick wash and a thorough dry prevent mold, mildew, and breakdown of the materials.

There are three main care methods:

  1. Air Drying - (Step 1) After every use! This is your first line of defense against mold.
  2. Hose Wash - (Step 2) A quick hose rinse and hang dry after each use or trip to prevent grime buildup.
  3. Hand Wash - (Step 3) Once or twice a season, a deeper clean using mild detergent.

This guide will walk you through each technique so you're an expert in keeping your waders clean and dry!

    • Fully dry your waders after every use and wash. Moisture left behind can lead to mold, mildew, and material breakdown.

    • Let your waders drip dry as soon as possible by hanging them somewhere and letting excess water drip off.

    • Air dry the inside of your waders by turning them inside-out and hanging them in a shaded, well-ventilated area until the inside is completely dry.

    • You can do this outdoors or in the area where you plan to store them. Laundry lines, ladders, and trees are all great options for air drying. This may take up to 24 hours.

    • Air dry the outside of your waders by turning them right-side-out and hanging them in a shaded, well-ventilated area until the outside is completely dry.

    • Store your waders properly by hanging them by the shoulder straps or on a specialty wader hanger in a well-ventilated storage space.

    • For a deeper clean, fill a tub or container with enough cool water to fully cover the waders.

    • Add a mild liquid detergent or a technical wash. Patagonia® recommends Storm Clothing Wash.

    • If you plan on air-drying the waders, make sure the detergent doesn’t require heat to activate.

    • Wash the outside of the waders for 5 minutes by gently squeezing and scrubbing the waders while they're submerged.

    • Flip the waders inside-out and wash the inside of the waders for five minutes.

    • Rinse the inside and outside of the waders twice in clean, cold water.

    • Dry and store the waders as outlined in Step 1.
