Follow this guide to learn how to use an anti-static wrist strap.

Anti-static wrist straps help minimize electrostatic discharge (ESD) when repairing electronic devices. Although not technically required, they pair with anti-static mats to equalize the charge between your hand and the device.

Anti-Static Wrist Strap

Passo 1

Before you begin, remove any jewelry from your wrist and fingers.

Passo 2

The anti-static strap should be adjusted to fit snugly on your wrist.
Pull up on the looped end of the strap to disengage the plastic lock.

Passo 3

To tighten the strap, pull the looped end away from the plastic slide.

Passo 4

To loosen the strap, pull the main part of the band away from the plastic slide.
Re-engage the plastic lock before continuing.

Passo 5

Slide the strap over your hand and secure it to your wrist.
If the strap is still too loose or tight, you can adjust it while it's on your wrist.

Passo 6

Attach the metal clip to one of the grounding nodes on an Anti-Static Mat or a grounded metal surface.

What qualifies as a grounded metal surface?

Good question! I am not a professional but I'll try to answer this. If you consider a electrical tool or object, it has a circuit any circuit is a self contained and operating system with different working components for different purposes, all working together or with the assistance of other devices. For a "ground", it can also be a wire that's called your ground, and that is part of the "circuit." The purpose is for a safe connection point for electricity to flow that way it doesn't interfere with the circuit of electrical activity that's currently going on with whatever device you need grounded. is used to prevent interference and protect the people in the vicinity or people in the future that might be in the vicinity. It's also going to be the easiest way for the electrical current to go towards the ground. Refer to owner/ operator manuals, and safety protocols for places of employment, and follow rules and common sense when interacting with electricity and electronics and water also.

During your repair, be mindful of the strap's cable, as stretching it too far can cause the clip to unsnap.

J'ai un doute…
Retirer tout bijou/montre/whatever, mais uniquement sur la main où l'on met le bracelet (ce qui me paraît logique) ou bien des deux mains ?

peut ton se connecter direct ex: sur une prise éléctrique avec l'embout terre de la prise

Bonjour @luckalellig non, ceci est fortement déconseillé !! Le courant des prises électriques est trop fort et risquerait de vous électrocuter.

non la terre pas ce branche au pole positif et négatif

Si vous êtes sûre que votre prise est réellement reliée à la terre (ce n'est souvent pas le cas dans les immeubles anciens, ils peuvent une prise de terre reliée à rien) oui la fiche terre (la fiche qui sort de la prise, surtout pas les trous qui sont la phase et le neutre et qui pourraient vous électrocuter - je précise car la réponse précédente semble confondre) sera parfaite.

Which is this nod on an ifixit mat?

Is it safe to ground the mat and the wrist at different outlets in the same time?

i don't have a metal grounding pillar/leg or an anti-static mat like in the images. how else can i try to use the anti-static wristband?

Bonjour toutes et tous , je pense que le mien a un défaut de fabrication car avant de l'utiliser j'ai testé la continuité entre la pince crocodile et la plaque en contact avec la peau . Le résultat est négatif . La continuité s'arrête à l'intérieur de l'embout qui s'emboîte sur le bracelet . Par contre sa passe jusqu'au 2 petits trou qu'il y a dessus . Je vais le réparer moi même mais je conseille fortement de le tester à l'achat avant afin d'éviter une catastrophe matériel .bonne journée à toutes et tous .
