Introdução

Lint that slips past the factory filter can coat the blue evaporator coils, slow every drying cycle, and overwork the heat-pump system. Sealing the small gaps in the filter frame with high-temperature electrical tape keeps lint where it belongs and protects the machine. This quick modification costs little, takes only minutes, and can be reversed whenever needed.

    • Unplug the GE Combo Washer Dryer from the wall outlet.

    • Wait until the drum and drying compartment are completely cool before touching the filter or coils.

    • Open the appliance door and grasp the lint filter handle.

    • Pull the filter assembly straight out of its housing.

    • Place the filter on a clean surface for inspection.

    • Shine a flashlight into the right side of the exposed filter housing to view the blue evaporator coils.

    • Look for gray or white lint clinging to the fins, especially near the top and center.

    • Heavy buildup over time slows drying and can damage the heat pump.

    • Fit a soft bristle brush onto a vacuum hose.

    • Gently brush across the coil fins to loosen trapped lint.

    • Keep the vacuum running to capture the loosened lint immediately.

    • A toothbrush taped to a stick reaches tight areas if a brush tool is unavailable.

    • Inspect the plastic frame and tabs of the filter for visible gaps where light passes through.

    • Focus on the long front edge that mates with the housing opening.

    • These openings allow lint to bypass the mesh and reach the coils.

    • Cut narrow strips of electrical tape rated for at least 185 °F.

    • Avoid generic household tapes because dryer heat can cause them to melt or detach.

    • Press a strip of tape along the entire front edge of the filter frame, covering every gap without blocking the mesh.

    • Wrap tape around each plastic tab to close additional escape paths for lint.

    • Smooth the tape firmly to create a continuous, airtight gasket.

    • If using high-temperature silicone, apply a thin bead in the same locations and allow the full cure time specified by the product.

    • Slide the modified filter back into its housing until it sits flush.

    • Check that the taped edges remain flat and do not peel or wrinkle.

    • Run a short drying cycle with a small load to verify normal airflow.

    • After the cycle, remove the filter and wipe the taped edges where lint now collects.

    • Reinspect the coils; little or no fresh lint indicates the seal is effective.

    • Clean the mesh filter after every load as recommended by the manufacturer.

    • Wipe accumulated lint from the taped gasket each time the filter is removed.

    • Inspect the coils with a flashlight every 50–100 cycles and vacuum if buildup reappears.

    • Replace or reinforce the tape if it shows signs of lifting, wear, or heat damage.

Conclusão

A sealed filter keeps lint off the blue coils, shortens drying times, and reduces stress on the heat-pump. Keep the gasket clean, watch for tape fatigue, and your GE Combo Washer Dryer will stay efficient for many cycles to come.
