This guide shows you how to install the shoulder buttons (L + R) in the bottom shell of your Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP.

    • The two springs are not interchangeable. It should be clear if you're trying to install the wrong spring, as it won't fit correctly in the button.

    • Slide the spring into the shoulder button so the bent arm goes into the cutout on the inside edge.

    • When installing the button, make sure it's oriented so the spring's straight arm is on top.

    • Use your fingers to hold the spring in place and slide the button over the hinge pin and into its recess.

    • Use your finger, a spudger, or a pair of tweezers to rotate the spring arm into its clip.

Thanks for adding this small guide, linked from the 'How to Reshell' guide. The springs of my shoulder buttons fell out during disassembly and this made it so much easier and less stressful, knowing I was doing it right. Everything works perfect again, including a stuck button (I had to replace the rubber pad)
