Introdução

Use Forced Defrost mode to make the refrigerator run a defrost cycle on demand when you suspect a defrost problem. This mode is also a quick way to check whether the control board is shutting the compressor off correctly during defrost. The guide also shows how to replace the W10503278 board, and then how to reprogram the control board.

    • Open the refrigerator door so you can access the control interface and the door switch area.

    • Caution: Keep fingers clear of moving fans and sharp edges, and don’t touch any exposed wiring while the refrigerator is plugged in.

    • Note: The button timing matters for these hidden modes, so read the full button sequence before starting.

    • Locate the door switch near the top of the refrigerator compartment, close to the control interface.

    • Press the switch in to confirm it’s the light switch, since the interior lights should turn off when it’s held.

    • If the refrigerator has two door switches, press and hold both switches at the same time for all diagnostic button sequences.

    • Press and hold the door switch or switches.

    • While holding the switch or switches, press the refrigerator temperature minus button three times within six seconds.

    • Release the door switch or switches.

    • Confirm “F D” appears on the display to show Forced Defrost mode is active.

    • Press the refrigerator temperature plus button to toggle between short defrost and long defrost.

    • Note: Make the short or long selection before starting the defrost cycle.

    • Press the refrigerator temperature minus button to start Forced Defrost.

    • Wait for the display to return to the normal temperature screen showing “4 4.”

    • Listen for the compressor and any fans to turn off, and expect the refrigerator damper door to close.

    • Leave the refrigerator door open or closed while defrost runs, since the cycle will continue either way.

    • Go behind the refrigerator near the bottom and listen for the compressor while Forced Defrost is running.

    • If the compressor is still running during Forced Defrost, the control board is faulty and needs replacement.

    • Note: A common failure on these models is a relay problem on the control board that can prevent proper defrosting.

    • If “F D” is showing and you don’t want to start defrost, close the refrigerator door to reset and exit Forced Defrost mode.

    • If “F D” is showing and you don’t want to start defrost, press the light switch off and on to reset and exit Forced Defrost mode.

    • Caution: Once you start defrost and the display returns to “4 4,” there is no manual cancel option, and the refrigerator will complete the selected short or long defrost cycle.

    • If “F D” doesn’t appear, press and hold the door switch or switches the entire time you enter the button sequence.

    • If “F D” doesn’t appear, repeat the sequence and make sure the refrigerator minus button is pressed three times within six seconds.

    • If the refrigerator has two door switches, press and hold both switches simultaneously or the mode won’t activate.

    • If “F D” appears but defrost doesn’t begin, press the refrigerator minus button to start the cycle and watch for the display to return to “4 4.”

Conclusão

Forced Defrost mode shows “F D” when entered correctly, uses the refrigerator plus button to choose short or long defrost, and starts when the refrigerator minus button is pressed. During defrost, the compressor and fans should shut off, and if the compressor keeps running, the control board isn’t controlling the compressor correctly.
