Introdução

With mechanical disc brakes, we adjust brakes if our brake lever pulls all the way into the handle bar. This guide will show how to adjust those brakes, specifically Tektro Aries MD-M300. However, this process should work with other mechanical brakes too. The process is quite easy and anyone can complete the guide without extensive knowledge of bicycles.

    • You will see a cable attached to an Allen bolt.

"WOW" that cable is installed incorrectly in the first place, it's supposed to go over the top of the arm then between the nut & tab in a clockwise direction.

    • Loosen up the bolt with the help of Hex key set.

    Anchored incorrectly.

    • Now, pull the cable as much as you can.

    All the gear, no idea.

    • Tighten up the bolt while you keep pulling the cable.

Pull it as tight as you like, it'll still come loose.

    • To center the caliper for a smooth breaking experience, loosen up the two bolts of the brake situated at top and at bottom.

The bolts that are being loosened in the picture are the wrong bolts for this adjustment. These bolts attach the brake assembly to the frame.

The adjustment bolts to keep the rotor centered between the disc pads have the heads facing up, and are just above the bolts pictured. The proper adjusting bolts allow the disc brake pads to move in the “cross bike” direction which is necessary for centering the rotor between the pads.

What are you doing wrong bolts!

    • Now, put the brake on.

    • While putting the brake on, tighten up both the bolts.

    • You are finished adjusting the brakes!

The bolts you indicate for adjustment are caliper to frame mounting bolts, NOT ADJUSTING BOLTS.

The adjustment bolts are on top of the caliper mounting bracket.

    Please revise.

I hope this guy doesn't own/work at your LBS.

Nothing he's done here was correct to the point that the cable could come loose leaving you with no brake.

For the love of god please don't follow this guide.

Dude, the cable is attached incorrectly. The cable routes up and over the little arm.

Grandy -

I need a replacement t25 bolt and square ribbed nut that is shown in step 4. Any help would be stellar.

I've seen better work done at Halfords.
