Introdução
Fresh oil and a clean filter protect the big-block 460 engine from wear and keep sludge out of the passages. Use this guide to drain the old oil, replace the filter, and refill the crankcase so your 1987-1991 Ford F-Series stays reliable. A warm engine and the right supplies will let you complete the job in a driveway without a lift.

Gather five quarts of engine oil, a new oil filter, an oil drain pan, rags, a wrench or ratchet for the drain plug, and an optional oil treatment additive.
-
-
-
Slide underneath and identify the oil filter on the side of the 460 engine and the drain plug in the oil pan.
-
Position the drain pan so it will catch oil from both the plug and the filter.
-
-
-
Loosen the drain plug with the wrench while holding the pan beneath the opening.
-
Spin the plug out by hand and let the oil pour into the pan.
-
-
-
Move the drain pan under the filter and turn the filter counter-clockwise to break it free.
-
Keep the filter mouth down so residual oil drains into the pan.
-
-
-
Wipe the filter mounting pad and surrounding area with a clean rag to remove oil and debris.
-
-
-
Spin the filter onto the mount until the gasket contacts the pad.
-
Wipe off any oil on the filter and chassis for a clean finish.
-
-
-
Insert a funnel into the fill neck and pour the oil treatment additive in first.
-
The additive is thick; allow it time to drain or rinse the bottle with a small amount of engine oil and pour it in.
-
Pour engine oil through the funnel until the dipstick reaches the full mark.
-
-
-
Start the engine and idle until the oil pressure gauge shows normal pressure.
-
Inspect the drain plug and filter area underneath for any signs of leakage.
-
-
-
Stop the engine, wait a minute, and recheck the oil level, topping up if needed; the 460 used roughly six quarts including the additive.

Your Ford F-Series now has fresh oil and a new filter. Record the mileage and plan your next service interval, and always dispose of used oil responsibly.
