    Charging logic-bomb in the bot?

I had a very seldom used Discovery 4210 and a sometimes used Discovery 4210. They literally both "died" on the same day.

Bought 6 new batteries, all charged for 24 hours. All had symptoms described here. None would reset per the directions here to come back to life. Press the Power button while it is green, it turns red immediately. Reset battery, it turns green. Press the Clean button it starts up, moves about 6 inches, and then gives the death tones, buttons flashe red. Reset battery, green, do again, red again.

I'm thinking when they hit 20 years old some kind of error is in the firmware code (or intentional ?) that disables the the unit. I tested the voltage on the batteries and all, 14 volts and change. Tried charging on the base, same symptoms. Tried charging by plugging into the side of the unit, same symptoms. I even charged the batteries up outside of the Roomba. Same symptoms. Batteries fully charged do not work in either unit.

    Not impressed.

In some cases, charging a super discharged battery can cause some charging components to overheat and fail. This requires some logic board level repair and involves replacing two mosfets. I've done it before and it's not the easiest. Didn't take enough pictures to make a guide sadly :/.

    • Charge Roomba for 16 hours and run on MAX cycle.

    • You should be done!

Conclusão

Perform an uninterrupted 16 hour charge. Then run on MAX cleaning cycle.
