After an accidental drop, my Canon EOS 6D Mark II refused to power on. At first, the issue seemed minor, so I didn’t immediately investigate it. Family members advised me to take it to a repair shop, but I decided to leave the camera unused for a while, hoping it wasn’t serious.
Later, I remembered watching a TikTok video that mentioned iFixit and how users successfully repair devices on their own. That motivated me to try diagnosing the problem myself. I visited the iFixit website, reviewed existing contributions (including Adam’s work), and also watched several YouTube videos to understand common power-related issues with this camera model.
During inspection, I noticed that when the camera fell, the battery cover door had come off. On the Canon EOS 6D Mark II, there is a small safety switch inside the battery compartment that prevents the camera from turning on if the battery door is not properly installed. Using a small pick, I carefully pressed this switch, and the camera powered on immediately.
Upon examining the battery cover door, I discovered that the plastic tab responsible for engaging the switch was broken. To permanently fix the issue, I purchased a new Battery Cover Door for the Canon EOS 6D Mark II, which cost NGN 2,500.
