This guide documents the replacement of the power switch on the Bissell Featherweight Lightweight vacuum cleaner. A faulty power switch in the vacuum renders the device unusable. When performing the repair please ensure that the device is not connected to a power source as the repair involves working with exposed metal connections.

    • Separate the filter from the electronics housing by pressing the grey latch.

    • Unscrew the electronic housing screws using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

    • Remove the front panel.

    • Identify the switch within the internal electronics.

    • The switch is connected to the rest of the circuit via two terminals with one terminal covered by a blue heat shrink tube.

    • Remove the switch from the clasps. Use a spudger to push down on the metal tab and pull the switch terminal away.

    • When removing the blue heat shrink side just pull the heat shrink below the metal terminal.

    • Reattach the new switch.

    • It should just slide in when the terminal and clasps are aligned.

    • Position the switch in the plastic slot in the housing.

    • Reattach the outer panel of the electronic housing.

    • Ensure that the switch is flush against both sides.

    • Reattach the electronics to the filter component of the vacuum and test the switch by powering the vacuum and turning it on and off.
