Performance and range

  • Powertrain: The R2 will offer three motor configurations:
    • a single-motor rear-wheel-drive,
    • a dual-motor all-wheel-drive,
    • a high-performance tri-motor all-wheel-drive.
  • Acceleration: The tri-motor version is expected to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds.
  • Range: All powertrain configurations are expected to offer a range of over 300 miles.
  • Battery: It will feature a new, structural battery pack using next-generation LG Energy 4695 cylindrical battery cells, which offer increased energy density.
  • Charging: The R2 will be equipped with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port and is designed for fast charging, achieving a 10% to 80% charge in under 30 minutes under ideal conditions.

Production and availability

  • Production timeline: Production is currently slated to begin in the first half of 2026.
  • Manufacturing location: To accelerate production and reduce capital costs, Rivian will initially build the R2 at its facility in Normal, Illinois, before eventually moving production to its new factory in Georgia.
