Background

Released in February 2009, the Nikon Coolpix P90 is an addition to Nikon’s Performance series and is an improved version of the Coolpix P80. Some of its improvements include: a higher 12.1 megapixel resolution, a fixed 24x lens with more than 12x magnification, vibration reduction for clearer shots, and a larger 3-inch pivoting LCD for varying shooting angles. Most of its other features are the same as the P80 Model.

In March 2010, Nikon replaced the P90 with the P100 model. This significantly improved to a CMOS image sensor for better light sensitivity and increased the zoom to 26x, but also lowered the resolution to just 10 megapixels.

Unlike most of its competitors, the Nikon Coolpix P90 is equipped with a slightly larger screen (3.0" vs 2.5"), better image stability, slightly higher maximum light sensitivity (6,400 ISO vs 1,600 ISO), has a screen that flips out, and is slightly lighter in weight (400g vs 600g). See Additional Information for a link to a comparative website between the Nikon Coolpix P90 and its competitors.

Identification

You can identify your Nikon Coolpix P90 by the model and serial numbers printed on a label located on the bottom of the camera near the tripod mount.
