Background

The Acer TravelMate X349 was launched in mid 2016 as the lead model in Acer's TravelMate X3 series. Its customers targeted business and professionals who needed portability. It's generally a slimly built laptop with lightweight aspects factored into its design along with longer battery life, intended for travelers or people who work outside of a fixed office. More unique design decisions include having the screen hinge open flat, integrating a fingerprint sensor for fast secure login, and having decent performance for a small frame.

Its launch pricing began around $649.99 in North America and was released there in October of 2016. Other regions (Europe, middle east, Asia) had the device show up slightly earlier or around the same period, with correspondingly different launch prices.

The laptop is also wildly regarded for having a subpar display compared to its competitors with the display also experiencing issues from time to time that are common amongst the owners. Problems like the laptop not waking from a sleep or hard shutdown also affect this laptop but generally can be resolved with a hard restart, updating drivers, or a factory reset.

Identification

To identify we are holding an Acer TravelMate X349 first look at the side bezels and notice a thickish side bezel that is less in its width than the top. In the top center of the screen, you'll find a webcam and on the opposite side of that webcam the bottom bezel is the thickest along with the Acer logo perfectly centered on the bottom bezel of the screen. The screen is a 14-inch full HD display with a chiclet style layout keyboard that is backlit. On the back of the laptop the side that houses the display on the top right corner of the flat gray back, there is another Acer logo that is boxed in by a silver-colored box and the logo as black lettering. The laptop only came in gray and along its side you'll find a USB-C port, two USB 3.0 ports, HMDI, an SD card slot, and a headphone jack.
